If I want to know if certain prayers will be answered, I'll repeat those words to myself.

I realize that it does me absolutely no good to try to figure out all the little details. I just have to trust in the Lord. I repeat the words over and over - "maybe yes and maybe no" - until they are planted in my heart to stay. They remind me that I can trust any decision to an all-powerful God who loves me.

(from today's Upper Room devotional)

rumination

Will you love the ‘you’ you hide
If I but call your name?
Will you quell the fear inside
And never be the same?

I hide, confounded,
unsure of how to act.
Is that reality creeping up?
Afraid to turn, I run.

Run I may, but for how long?
The darkness pursues
and does not give up chase
I wonder if it could or can.

Can this part of me be stilled
denied from manifestation?
Yet the mask breaks occasionally
and I recoil in fear.

Fear of what lies beneath
that which invites rejection.
But it has tainted my existence
throughout these long years.

Years of conscious repression
yearning for redemption.
Only one solution presents itself
that of a solemn vow.

Vow I shall if I must
to keep the faith I hold
for it gives me hope
beyond this dilemma.

the summons

1. Will you leave yourself behind
If I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind
And never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let me answer prayer
In you and you in me?

3.
